How to Apply for a Subdivision (SD) / Consolidation (CS)

• Check Local Zoning and Building Regulations: Before starting any improvements, make sure to check with your local planning or zoning office to ensure that your planned improvements comply with local zoning laws and building codes. This may include verifying the allowable land use, setbacks, and height restrictions for the property.
• Obtain Necessary Permits: Depending on the type of improvement, you may need to apply for various permits. For Example:
  • Building Permit for construction, additions, or major renovations.
  • Electrical/Plumbing Permits if improvements involve electrical or plumbing work.
  • Environmental or Historical Preservation Permits if the property is in a protected zone or has historical significance.
• Submit Application to the Local Assessor or Municipal Office: Submit an application for the new improvement to your local assessor's office or municipal office. Include the necessary documents such as your property details, improvement plans, and permits.
• Property Inspection (if required): In some cases, the local assessor's office may conduct a property inspection to verify the proposed improvements or check that the work is in progress. If you are requesting a certification of improvements, an inspection may also be necessary.
• Pay Required Fees: You may need to pay fees related to building permits, application processing, or inspections. Ensure all payments are made according to the local office's instructions.
